Xycle at the Plastic Transition Election Debate 2025

During the Plastic Transition Election Debate organized by Plastics Europe Nederland on Monday, October 13, our CEO Arnd Thomas joined Tabita Verburg (Dow) and Tom van Aken (Avantium) to discuss the future of sustainable plastics in the Netherlands.

Arnd highlighted that a truly circular future demands collaboration and realism: “Mechanical and chemical recycling complement each other; one cannot exist without the other. Chemical recycling enables us to turn plastic waste into contact-sensitive products such as food packaging and medical devices. This prevents valuable feedstocks from being incinerated or landfilled, allowing them to be reused again and again in high-quality applications. We need government to ensure a fair and realistic playing field, not through more rules, but through vision and trust. And the focus must be on quality of recycling, in addition to just volume.”

The technology is ready. The investment commitment is there — proven by the construction of Xycle’s first plant in Rotterdam.

Now it’s time for policymakers and industry to work together and create the right conditions for a truly circular future.
